Nature on the city’s doorstep: Bird sanctuary, arboretum, trails, Nature House, natural history programs for children and adults.

The Scout Island Nature Centre is a community centre for people and wildlife. It is a nature sanctuary where living things and their habitat are protected. Considered an important wildlife viewing area in the province of BC, it is a place where people can enjoy and learn about nature in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region. The land and waters of the Nature Centre, owned mostly by the The Nature Trust of British Columbia, are designated as a public nature education facility.

The Scout Island Nature House offers school and community programs by appointment year round. Along with knowledgeable and friendly staff, the nature house is filled with displays of animals and plants and an extensive library.

Scout Island Nature Centre offers a variety of public programs all year round. Talks and outdoor explorations by leading biologists cover a wide range of nature-related topics.

Scout Island Nature Centre offers school programs for grades K-12 from September through June.

See our blog for our most current updates and programs at the centre or visit our Facebook page.

The Scout Island Nature Centre is operated by the Williams Lake Field Naturalists in cooperation with the The Nature Trust of British Columbia and the City of Williams Lake.

The Nature Centre is supported by members of the Williams Lake Field Naturalists, Friends of Scout Island (individual and local business and organization donors), partners, granting agencies and many volunteers. It is a charitable organization.

Do you know that donations from our members and the public fund a significant proportion of our work? We’ve made it easier to support Scout Island Nature Centre. Visit our webpage to find out more.
